Dermis Fat Graft in Anophthalmic Socket

Abstract

|
Treatment for anophthalmic socket which is developed after enucleation is very important cosmetically. We studied 5 patients who received secondary dermis-fat implantation for complicated anophthalimic socket during the last 15 months. Four cases
were
operated as secondary dermis fat graft because of extrusion of implant and impossibility of prosthetic fitting due to contracted socket. One case was used as secondary combined operation because of lower lid symblepharon and contracted socket.
There was no specific complication except severe fat atropy in 1 case who have had radiation therapy after enucleation for retinoblastoma.
This technique conserves conjunctiva, preserves the fornix, and supplies additional orbital volume with little change of extrusion or atropy.
